In this +- 20 minute video, Joel and Gary demonstrate two similar, yet different approaches to making a 7-gem ring. Starting with a shank a curve and a single gem, they both build the upper part of the ring including gem placement, under-bezels, and prongs.

Using the concept of negative space, Gary explains why this is so important in CAD design to accommodate typical jewelry manufacturing processes.  On Monday, May 20th, I will be presenting a paper at the Santa Fe Symposium on Jewelry Manufacturing Technology on the topic of how we can use CAD in our jewelry workshops to save time and money in repair and restoration, while making our work environments more safe, comfortable and productive. This short video demonstrates flowing cutters along a subcurve (created from an isocurve) to place cutters, prongs and gems in place on an eternity style ring.
